JUDICIAL REFORM:
Strengthening the Role of Courts in Post-Conflict Countries
This program brings together retired judges from the US who support ADR and practicing judges in post-conflict countries. The program focuses on the strengthening the role of the courts in countries where the rule of law has been limited due to lack of judicial power, corruption or inadequate training for judges. Through this program judges learn principles by which to assert ethical and judicial authority into the legal system while promoting ADR processes. By so doing the rule of law will be strengthened, human rights will be protected and the legal system will gain legitimacy.
- Assess the judicial system as a whole and if necessary focus on areas for expansion.
- Development of a complementary civil mediation system.
- Training of Judiciary in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) where necessary.
- Help build a knowledge base amongst international legal professionals to create change and improve international relations.
